Welcome to Red Mountain
Named Billionaire Mountain by Forbes, this neighborhood perched hillside boasts spectacular views and massive, enviable estates
From their elevated position opposite the Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort, residents in the Red Mountain neighborhood have the ideal location to watch the sun set in a rush of vibrant colors, melting over the mountains of Aspen. Peering over Downtown Aspen, Red Mountain is an enclave of the elite that’s equal parts exclusive and convenient, just minutes from Aspen Core’s upscale, commercial thrum.
Red Mountain is famous for its high-end, luxury estates, designed by top-tier architects and often created with the intention to merge the natural mountain aesthetic with sleek, contemporary lines. These spacious masterpieces, built with no expenses spared, are home to many of Aspen’s wealthiest citizens, all of whom enjoy the privacy of their secluded estates.
Top-of-the-world views are among the defining features of Red Mountain, and here the mansions come equipped with sweeping glass walls, vistas from every angle. Owners will find their view extends all the way from Independence Pass to Mount Sopris and the famed Maroon Bells, with outdoor adventures like hiking and skiing within a short distance of their front doors.
What to Love
- Exceptional hiking and mountain biking
- Resort-style living with premier amenities and unparalleled luxury
- A mere 3- to 10-minute drive into Aspen Core / Downtown Aspen
Red Mountain residents don’t have to leave their homes to experience world-class relaxation, and this neighborhood is often characterized as the most quintessentially, “Aspen,” community in the city. Whether they choose to head down the mountain for luxury shopping trips, cozy in by the fire to enjoy the views, or venture out onto one of the many trails and meadow paths, they find that the best of the best is always at their fingertips.
Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping
While their position northeast of the Roaring Fork River puts Red Mountain neighborhoods elevated above the sparkling city center, Downtown Aspen’s bounty is still just a short drive from home for most residents. Downtown, restaurants like Matsuisha provide gourmet,
award-winning cuisine. Matsuhisa in particular specializes in new-style Japanese cuisine, and its unique interior combines a bamboo-wrapped ceiling and buzzy bar with the architecture of the 19th-century Victorian home in which it resides.
Another restaurant based out of a historic home — in particular, a restored miners cottage — White House Tavern tantalizes the palate with its menu of elevated burgers and craft cocktails. For a top-tier raw bar and specialty seafood items, there are few better than Clark’s, due in part to their always fresh catches and expert sushi techniques.
Things to Do
Perhaps the biggest appeal of the Red Mountain neighborhoods apart from the phenomenal estates is the presence of plentiful trails and meadows in tandem with breathtaking views. The Hunter Creek Trail spans nearly nine miles and is rated moderate among hikers. Following the path of its namesake creek up the slopes of Red Mountain, Hunter Creek Trail has a convenient trailhead right in the middle of Red Mountain’s neighborhoods.
The Sunny Side Trail has an easy entrance off of McClain Flats Road right next to the Roaring Forks River. Its difficult terrain is punctuated by dazzling wildflower fields, making this tough 10-mile trek well worth the effort. Further south, the Smuggler Mountain Trailhead sets hikers on a path to experience picturesque lake views and steep uphill climbs.
